Statement of the CCJ on the passing of Sir Fenton Ramsahoye, QC
It is with great sadness that The Caribbean Court of Justice notes the passing of the regional legal luminary Sir Fenton Ramsahoye, QC. Sir Fenton, who formerly served as Attorney General of Guyana, Deputy Director of Legal Education for the Council of Legal Education and Head of the Hugh Wooding Law School, also enjoyed a busy practice as one of the region’s premier advocates. He appeared regularly before both the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council and the Caribbean Court of Justice.
Throughout his distinguished career, Sir Fenton maintained a reputation as a legal trail-blazer. He was known for his tremendous legal acumen, unfailing commitment to his clients and a passion for the law both as an advocate and as an academic. He was dedicated to developing Caribbean jurisprudence and he generously shared his vast knowledge and experience with younger lawyers.
Sir Fenton was truly a giant among men. He will be missed and never forgotten.
